The easiest way to get started is to write relevant articles that contain your keyword and submit them to services like www.isnare.com where they will spread your articles to hundreds of sites.
In the right niche, you can do well just by doing this one strategy.
Press releases also help, but many people seem intimidated by them for some reason, they’re easy and using sites like PRweb.com you can quickly and easily get your press release on hundreds of sites.
Then there’s directory submissions, which again can be outsourced or done with tools. (all 3 of these methods can be automated but I don’t want to put links to tools in case that is against Yahoos terms, but you can find them on Google easily).
Just don’t be intimidated by all the information out there, and track your efforts so that you know what’s working.
Also, you don’t control the search engines, so don’t expect quick results – you may get them, but if not that doesn’t mean you’re not doing the right thing, so stick to what I’ve said and you should do well in any niche.
