The web site currently experiences a peak demand of about 85,000 hits per second; but every month, the peak demand increases by 3500 hits per second. Use a proportion equation to determine how many new servers the administrator should buy to address expected traffic for the next 18 months, if he is replacing all of the servers.

Proportional problem:
one server is to 11,000 hits as X servers is to 85,000 plus 3500 times 18 months

simplify:
one server is to 11,000 as X servers is to 715,000

Cross multiplication would be:
11000X = 715,000
X = 65

A minimum of 65 servers would be necessary in 18 months to handle peak volume per second then.
