I want to host my web forum.
I have 10000 members and it is a busy site. Also members can upload their own pics into gallery, other than that its all text posts aside from signiture pics etc
so what kind of bandwidth/traffic and web space do i need to buy ?
the last thing i need is to pay for hosting and find that peolple cant post every third week because it has run out..
what do peole recommend, i was looking at unlimited bandwidth, unlimited webspace but i dont know if that is necessay.. is what is the best one to go for ?

How do I tell if the internet traffic I bought is a rip off?

I bought 10,000 hits for my website. I have google analytics installed measuring traffic. The company who sold me the traffic has a chart showing they are sending me 100’s a day. Google analytics are showing me 0 a day. They are reporting "Our traffic is from multiple sources and it goes through several servers. Because of this, the traffic may fail to appear in web stats or other counters. Third-party hit counters on your site will not accurately represent the number of visitors to your site or the number of ads we served. This is due to the large amounts of traffic sent to the site in a relatively short timeframe. Most 3rd party counters cannot keep up accurately." Not accurate and 0 traffic are two different things to me! Am I getting ripped off?

The "traffic hits " on most of these are just robot banner impressions that link to your site and most likely completely useless .

Registering domain name VS buying web space?

As I understand it, in order to create a website you must first register a domain name and buy a web space.

Having a registered domain name allows you to have a simple url you choose, like www.example.com, instead of something like www.geocities.com/example.

The web space is where you store your html, css, etc files.

If this isn’t a correct understanding please correct me.

So my first questions: If you register your own domain name, but want to use free web hosting, can you make your url direct the user to the files saved on the free webhosting? In this case, after accessing the website will your registerred domain name still be in the address bar, or will the webhosting address be visible?

Second: Can you recommend any good web hosting sites that don’t have banner ads?

Third: If you answered positively to the last 3 questions, is there any concievable reason why someone like me, creating a small low traffic site, would regret paying to register a domain name and not paying for commercial web space?

to make a domain name redirect you need to have DNS control some domain registrars offer this in the price others charge so check before you buy.
the address bar will have the domain name you purchase once redirected.

if you keep back-ups of your site you should have no problems, you should do this with paid hosting as well

I have just started my business and used Go Daddy for my web page. I used the Website Tonight. I went to Google and verified my domain. I then bought a small abount of AdWords. I am still not getting any hits. How long does it take to start seeing traffic on my site?
